Truly, truly, it is ironic that the prompt for my birthday is, in fact, my biggest struggle, on all sides. It’s as if someone out there knows…
I love when the prompts fit so easily with biblical principles. In the case of Lust, I give you:
1 John 2:16 (NIV)
For everything in the world-the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life-comes not from the Father but from the world.
Typically, I think it’s safe for me to say that we think first of “lust” on a sexual scale, but it actually covers the whole range of “wanting something/anything that is not ours,” that is not meant for us, that is not “good” for us. For the most part, these are things in general for everyone, but a lot of it can be relative, too. That is, something that is good for you – something that you can handle, may not be good for me. (Think alcohol, I can’t start because I can’t stop.)
On a good note: July 28th was five years for me without so much as a drop of alcohol. If you had told me during my decades of daily consumption that there would come a time when I would not have had a drop for five years, I would’ve called you crazy.
“Never say never.” Growth and change – and the possibility for both – never ends. Anyone can find them; anyone can have new life through them.
